winter RADIANCE RETREAT

a book club EXPERIENCE with a sensual, hygge touch.

Inspired by winter’s wisdom, a deep belief in the power of heart-centered conversations, books that open you, introspective journaling, movement + spirituality to create internal space, and sensuality to help women heal, remember and unlock their feminine radiance that has been suppressed for too long.

Join me January 24-27 (check in 5:30pm, dinner at 6:30, check out 10am) for a mountain retreat in Harman, West Virginia to disconnect in order to reconnect to your Feminine through Kundalini meditation, Vinyasa Flow classes, breath work, intuitive dance classes, journaling via The Journal Deck, and group book discussion, all in the company of like-minded women and only 3 hours from Pittsburgh.

WHY I MADE THIS RETREAT:  For the past 4 years I have hosted the Radiance Retreat in August in Ohiopyle, PA but have been asked numerous times about adding a second retreat, specifically a winter one. I have had my hesitations, especially because winter is admittedly my least favorite season, but I also know that I’m not alone in that. Cabin fever, holiday overwhelm and seasonal depression are very real. But what better time to practice finding the Light within and reenergizing ourselves naturally? Winter is about moving towards the Light, so using the cozy container of winter’s rest and darkness, we will reflect Mother Nature by going energetically inward- because you are the Altar.

The book

Why this book? Since ancient times, women have been the whore or the holy virgin, and as humans we have been taught that earthly pleasures and our humanness make us inherently sinful, that we need saved, but this book explores a Femininst notion that unites our holy with our human.

The Gospel of Mary Magdalene reveals a very different love story from the one we've come to refer to as Christianity. Harvard-trained theologian Meggan Watterson leads us verse by verse through Mary's gospel to illuminate the powerful teachings it contains.

A gospel, as ancient and authentic as any of the gospels that the Christian bible contains, was buried deep in the Egyptian desert after an edict was sent out in the 4th century to have all copies of it destroyed. Fortunately, some rebel monks were wise enough to refuse-and thanks to their disobedience and spiritual bravery, we have several manuscripts of the only gospel that was written in the name of a woman: The Gospel of Mary Magdalene.

Mary's gospel reveals a radical love that sits at the heart of the Christian story. Her gospel says that we are not sinful; we are not to feel ashamed or unworthy for being human. In fact, our purpose is to be fully human, to be a "true human being"- that is, a person who has remembered that, yes, we are a messy, limited ego, and we are also a limitless soul.

And all we need to do is to turn inward (again and again); to meditate, like Mary Magdalene, in the way her gospel directs us, so that we can see past the ego of our own little lives to what's more real, and lasting, and infinite, and already here, within.

With searing clarity, Watterson explains how and why Mary Magdalene came to be portrayed as the penitent prostitute and relates a more historically and theologically accurate depiction of who Mary was within the early Christ movement.

I originally booked the retreat because I wanted to reset after Summer. The second day I could name the thing that was holding me back and on the third day Alyssa walked me through releasing it in ways I never expected. I came out of this retreat feeling the spaciousness I needed to move forward. This weekend changed my life. I was seen. I was heard. I was loved. And now I feel alive again.

Your insight was a HUGE wake up call. I knew that something was missing, but so far no therapist, doctor, pastor, friend, or anyone else have been able to even point me in the right direction like you did.

FAQS

What’s the age range?

We have old soul women in their early 20’s to women awakening later in life in their mid to late 40’s. Truly age is just a number and it’s the energy that you bring to the group.

Do I need to have done yoga before?

Although I offer modifications, I will not be breaking down basic poses therefore some asana experience is preferred. Perhaps go to some basics classes or check out my monthly free yoga classes (see bottom of page) to get your footing by the time of retreat. Advanced practitioners not required.

I don’t feel feminine…

If calling yourself a goddess feels weird, you’re not alone. That’s why many of the women are here! I used to think ‘goddess’ was mumbo jumbo. No worry, by the end you’ll have a solid understanding of feminine living to bring into your daily life.

Is this a spiritual or religious retreat?

I would NEVER call this a religious retreat, but certainly a spiritual journey. That being said, the book Mary Magdelene Revealed, by Harvard Theologian Meggan Patterson, discusses religious figures and topics from a respectable, yet interpretive analysis place. If you are not open-minded or unable to talk about religion without feeling defensive then this retreat isn’t for you. You’ll do it when you’re ready.

I can’t dance…

First, dance experience NOT required. Second, EVERYONE can dance! Babies move to a beat. You’ve just gotten a bit stuck and we will work to unlock that feminine, shakti energy to get your hips swaying and find that flow. You just gotta have fun and let go. The ladies loved it!

DO I need a 4 wheel drive vehicle?

It is recommended that you drive in a 4 wheel drive vehicle with non shitty tires to get up the driveway which is 1 mile up a mountain. The being said, a lot of ladies ride together (road trip!) and I’m happy to help connect you with someone. Also, the owner of the home said her father plows the driveway if there’s snow and is happy to take ladies up in his truck if need be. Lastly, there is room for 2-3 cars at the bottom of the driveway should you not be able to get your car up. From what I hear, the view and seclusion at the top is SO worth it, but if we have a winter like 2018, then there might be very little snow any who. Adventure time!
