Ostara "Spring" Rituals + Lightness

Ostara "Spring" Rituals + Lightness

Ostara, Spring; the time of fertility and possibility and light balancing with dark. Every day after today, the Light stays a little longer than the Dark moving towards the Summer Solstice. I LOVE working with these nature metaphors in our lives, which is why I came up with this Equinox themed Journal Prompt...READ ON

Taboo: My yoga injury + my recipe for healing low back pain

Taboo: My yoga injury + my recipe for healing low back pain

Truth: A couple months after I started practicing yoga in 2013, my low back started to give me problems. Second truth: it took me up until last year to finally admit and accept that fact. Third truth: yoga injuries happen but people don't like to talk about them.

I'm done being quiet, which is why I'm writing this and why I recorded a podcast episode all about it too. READ MORE...

Light Shaming: 3 Reasons Why We Need to Know That Self Care Isn't Selfish

Light Shaming: 3 Reasons Why We Need to Know That Self Care Isn't Selfish

I'm curious, what is your experience like with "Light shaming" i.e. being made to feel bad about being positive, practicing self care, or putting yourself first?

Due to the political climate and the suffering of others, especially other women around the world and right here in the USA, I've been seeing some talk lately that doesn't settle right with me; hence why I did a whole podcast on it this week. My conclusion? I think it's for 3 big reasons. READ ON

What's Next in Fitness and Health?

So I won an award for Who’s Next in Pittsburgh Fitness NOT because of having a “yoga body,” or because I work out every day (I don’t), but because of the ACTIONS I have taken within the health community i.e. the Journal Deck, the Self Care Spotlight Podcast, and the JD Self Care Collective online membership.

But while I’m honored to be chosen, I have to wonder, What’s Next in Fitness for ALL of us and does my award speak to a greater paradigm shift in fitness?  READ ON...

What is Yule, Make Your Own Yule Log, and Themed Journal Prompts

What is Yule, Make Your Own Yule Log, and Themed Journal Prompts

Have you ever heard of Yule? Not like "Yuletide Carols," but the actual celebration of Yule? Turns out, there is a lot of wisdom in this holiday...

A Pagan celebration of light, Yule begins on the Winter Solstice, December 21st, and lasts through January 1st, with the last night of celebration being Dec. 31st. It is a time of honoring the dark and celebrating the light that is to come, as each day after the winter solstice, the sun climbs a little higher...READ ON + CRAFT!

The Privilege and Benefits of Journaling: What If Your Hands Hurt To Write?

The Privilege and Benefits of Journaling: What If Your Hands Hurt To Write?

In this week's Self Care Spotlight podcast, I had the privilege of talking to warrior woman, Julie Cerrone. Julie is a young woman with psoriatic arthritis, but despite her condition, she remains utterly vibrant and positive. Due to the inability to use her hands to write much of the time, her perspective on writing thoughts out in your journal versus typing and versus talk to text, and even speaking things out loud, is fascinating and EYE OPENING!
